You should see your character's name, class, level and stats on the left side of the window. Select the file with the name of your character and the extension. Click on the Open button and browse to your Diablo 2 save folder, which is usually located in C:\\Users\\YourName\\Saved Games\\Diablo II\\. To edit your character, you need to load your save file first. Once installed, you can launch Hero Editor from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut. You may need to change the installation path to match your Diablo 2 folder.
Run Hero Editor.exe as administrator and follow the instructions to install it. You should see a file called Hero Editor.exe and a folder called D2Backup. After downloading the file, unzip it to a folder of your choice.
